Appearance

Gisborne Cockroach
  • 20 - 45 mm long.
  • Black/dark brown with distinctive white band on the side.
  • Wingless.
  • Very fast runner.

Lifecycle

  • Females deposit the ootheca (egg case) containing 16 eggs a day after production.
  • Ootheca are cemented down and widely scattered.
  • Hatch in 1 - 2 months.
  • Nymphs take 2 - 4 months to develop into adults.

Habits

  • These cockroaches like to live in bark chips or timber.
  • They sometime enter the house particularly in very wet weather or after gardening clean.
